Is (very well) means ( excellent)?

What does mean by( well done)?

Thank you

Very well doesn't strictly mean 'excellent' although it is along the same lines.

Well done.

You did a good job. The job was 'well done'.

'do - did - done'

I think we'd have to see the particular instance of "very well" and "well done" in a sentence.

Examples:

"You did very well on the test."

"Very well -- If that's what you want, you can go somewhere else."

"Congratulations on a job well done."

"In accordance with the new county health regulations, from now on all beef is served well done."

If that last sentence were true I'd move.

"Well done" referring to cooking meat means it has been cooked as long as you can cook it before it turns to char... At least that's how well done beef tastes to me...

<<If that last sentence were true I'd move.>>

I seem to recall that this was true several years ago in some places around here (NY state). They were worried about meat-borne parasites and diseases. Cooking the meat until there's no hint of pink left is supposed to kill off most of the parasites and diseases (other than BSE, of course).

That's only true of ground beef. If it's a steak or a filet or something like that then as long the inside isn't purple it's fine.
