Characteristic english errors.

Can you tell what people's native language is from analyzing the errors in their english writing??

I've noticed that spanish speaking people tend to make characteristic mistakes in english that I've been able to identify them with; little idiosyncracies from their own language that shows through in their english.

Does anybody else notice any trends for different language groups?

I don't know about English, but there are characteristic mistakes people make speaking my native language Spanish. English speakers often say things like "funcción, accento" or mix up ser/estar or mix up the preterite and imperfective. Other romance speakers don't make these same mistakes. Portuguese speakers make characteristic errors such as those discussed in a recent thread of Portuguese speakers speaking Spanish. And the same with French but I can't remember now.
