The Cordova is not strange because of the explorers but Madrid in New York and Seville are:

What about Toledo in United States:
Toledo, Illinois
Toledo, Iowa
Toledo, Ohio
Toledo, Oregon
Toledo, Washington

and more and more cities.

They are very small towns but well it really doesn't matter.

I'm assuming the reason for this is that the founders of those towns came from the original or wanted to SAY they were from Madrid, Paris, Toledo, etc. In Texas we have a Paris, there's an Athens in Georgia, and a London in Connecticut.

It's easier to copy Europan names for cities rather than inventing them from scratch I guess.

Toledo, Ohio is more famous in the US than Toledo, Spain.
There are Venice and Naples in Florida, and Venice in California.

I suppose this also happens in many cities.
It is strange that Suecia, Sudafrica,Canada have the name of 'madrid'. The rest of the countries is normal.
What about barcelona? You know anything?

In Venezuela there is another Barcelona. I guess that in US there must be a few ones as well. It sounds a bit kitsch in some way those US cities called like the European ones.

There's a Moscow in the USA too.

Hmm, this is kind of funny. But at the same time, I wouldn't really want to be from one of these towns and then go overseas and have people asking where I'm from.
