As a girl who grew up in Southern California, I can tell you that there is a stigma associated with Valspeak even when you live in the area where it is spoken. Almost everyone in SoCal can turn it on and off at will. (I think we should get major points for adjusting to two different accents. Just kidding- nobody's getting credit for valspeak, I know that). The hardest feature to drop is the use of the word "like" for said. It can be extremely easily gotten rid of in any other context, but that one is just so common it's hard to drop.
