Intrinsic

"belonging to a thing by its very nature;"

Could any of you give an example using the term? I think I get it but not fully.

An example is the computer game Nethack. Intrinsic abilities are part of the character's nature as opposed to extrinsic abilities which are only granted by the current equipment the character is wearing. If you take off all your equipment, your character will have no extrinsic abilities, but will still have intrinsic ones. This is why I prefer intrinsics over extrinsics. Some things like reflection can only be acquired as extrinsics though.

the above is an example of an intrinsically nerdy comment

"Some things like reflection can only be acquired as extrinsics though."

I'm having trouble comprehending here. How's reflection considered extrinsic?

It's part of the game. It doesn't make sense in a general context.
