Although Americans don't actually find the term Yank offensive -- just sort of ... quaint.

People do find the term "Yank" mildly irritating, but only in intra-US usage, as in a southerner calling a notherner a "yankee" or some bullshit. Any nation other than England (or Canada, since it's cute when they say it) using it is just weird sounding.

Oh yeah, and some Canadian accents sound a little Irishy at times ... at least, as far as I can tell from old SCTV reruns. None of the Canadian people I've met have really sounded as Canadian as people on that show.

Nah, Yank and Yankee are two different terms. The one doesn't apply to the other, because in intra-US usage, no one ever says "Yank". That term is strictly foreign.
