Actually, "uno" is masculine, "una" is feminine and "un" is kinda like neutral, for example you could perfectly say "Cuarentaiun mujeres" or "Cuarentaiun hombres" and that would sound completly natural, in fact, if you said "Cuarentaiuna mujeres" that sounds a bit weird in normal speech.

Still it sounds a bit weird to me because I've never heard it in my life, the only similar example that comes to my mind is "Ciento un dalmatas" (A hundred and one dalmatians)
