Funny Ha Ha! and Funny Peculiar!

When something you say, sound a little bit 'funny'

The next question is: Funny Ha Ha! or Funny Peculiar!

Is what you have said - genuinely funny?

That is - likely to cause someone to laugh. The humour being intentional or unintentional.

I don't think I or anyone else would ever use 'funny' to describe someone who is 'suspicious' or 'offensive'. 'Funny' is too lighthearted a word to use for someone of questionable character. 'Funny' in the latter sense simply means 'odd' or 'quirky'.

If someone says to me, "You're funny." And I respond, "Funny ha-ha or funny peculiar?" What I'm really asking is "Are you complimenting me on my sense of humor or do you think I'm a dork?"

Here in Wisconsin if someone is acting abnormally, even if it's suspicious or offensive, most people I know would say that would be acting "funny." That's usually followed by, "Funny funny or funny strange/weird?"

The word "funny" is funny...

'Acting funny' sometimes has that meaning in the South too (also the expression 'there's something funny about him') .
