There's no popular third person for wanna.
Rick   Tue Mar 31, 2009 1:58 am GMT
It's "wants to".
Lazar   Tue Mar 31, 2009 3:53 am GMT
The third person of "wanna" is just "wants to" - pronounced something like ["wAnst@].

You can't conjugate lower class slang!!!
English_Obsessed   Tue Mar 31, 2009 6:28 pm GMT
Never heard any slang expression for wanna from the third person. You just say it He/She/It wants to. It sounds pretty normal.
Caspian   Tue Mar 31, 2009 6:59 pm GMT
Ok, here's the conjugation:

I want
You want
He / She / It / One wants
We want
You want
They want

The 'to' following this is not part of this verb, 'to want'. It is the first part of the infinitive of the next verb, and should remain thus.

At least here, in everyday speech it tends to be something like [ˈwɒ̃ʔtsʲːə(ː)] or [ˈwɒ̃ʔtsʲːu(ː)].

Seriously though, use language like this and you will be regarded as extremely NOCD!

Seriously though, almost everyone says "wanna", at least in America.
Caspian   Tue Mar 31, 2009 7:41 pm GMT
Well perhaps they do in America - but
a) It's incorrect here, in Britain - and I imagine in America.
b) Even if it is spoken, it should never be written like that.

Exactly, and the written and spoken languages are two related but seperate entitites. Wanna, gonna etcare perfectly valid forms in the spoken realm.

I remember a song of the Spice Girls (English group) that said "if you wanna be my lover...".

on MTV UK everyone uses WANNA, GONNA, GOTTA

Oh yeah, I´ll tell you something
I think you'll understand
When I say that something
I wanna hold your hand
I wanna hold your hand
I wanna hold your hand

WANNA, GONNA, GOTTA are accused of being Americansims (just like -ize verbs) but it's a false alarm, they are used from Wales to New Zealand, from Queensland to Manitoba.
