Medical institute

Could the term 'Medical institute' be used to refer to a hospital? Or only colleges and research centers?

Here's a case where an instutute seems to be part of a hospital:

That's a research institute that's associated with a hospital, not a hospital itself.

Most medical institutes are for research, and/or teaching. They are usually associated with a hospital or university clinic.
