Hmmm, I'm not sure I've ever heard that. Plus, a quick google search on it is not too encouraging. Can you think of another term?
Also, do you see a gleam, beam, ray, or what else 'of fire'?

HOWEVER, all these can have different meanings according to strict military terminology, which varies from country to country...

It depends on what kind of unit it is. The commonly used unit names (in order of increasing size) are fireteam (or team), squad, platoon, company, battalion, regiment, brigade and division.
