Methods for Relearning a Language

Recently I was talking to a couple of women in bookstores. One started the conversation with me because I had something in German. She was interested in reviving her German by using flashcards.

The other lady I met had comics in French. She had eight years of French, been there 3 or 4 times and was terrible at it, she said. She hoped using comic books would help her.

What do you think about these methods?

Also, do you think that people really lose languages that they learn?

Yes, you forget languages if you don't use them. At least sort of forget - they might be in your brain somewhere, just difficult to access.

Reading is a great source of input. Comic books are good because the pictures help with understanding & keep it fun, but more advanced learners should read other things too e.g. magazines etc

I don't use flashcards but a lot of people do.
