My accent is different from everyone else's...

English is my mother tongue, and is actually a language I am exceptionally good at (reading, writing, vocabulary).

However, I've been offered a job that will require me to talk on the phone (something I hate).

1--If you heard me, would you be able to understand me?
2--Where would you think I was from?
3--When I was younger, I was in speech therapy for four years, but if y'all could offer any more suggestions on what to improve, that would be much appreciated.

We can't tell anything from your writing about your speaking voice. Maybe a link would help.

I think there is a word for one's own way of speaking. Perhaps it's "idiolect". I have a mixed accent-a combination of the dialects I have heard over the years. Once in awhile people ask me if I am foreign or British or tell me that I have an accent. I usually tell them that everyone has an accent. Occasionally I will add that I speak Standard English, lol.

Unless people cannot understand you, I would not worry about it too much.

Thanks, but I don't really need any more external recognition on how I write..just how I speak, thanks.

Thanks, I have never heard of it before. Interesting!

I posted that before your link came up. I haven't been able to hear it yet (slow loading time).
