Free Interactive Dictionaries

I know Babylon, but it is not really free software. Are there other good interactive free english dictionaries which can run in the background and show the meanings and pronunciation of words while I am using other applications (e.g. browsers)?

You can try Lingoes or just recently new evaluation version of L-gator downloadable from www.treestages.com which works also with some editors and viewers of pdf files.
