Vocabulary Building/vocabulearn, etc.

I was going through the archives and was surprised that someone had a very similar method for learning languages. Anyway, I usually recommend Vocabulearn, but it seems that the NEWER ones (2005, one edition), have 2500 words per level. At least some of the older ones have about 1500 words per level (big difference). It's still a very cheap and easy way to learn a lot of vocabulary IF:

You are busy and have to do a lot of listening as your method.
You learn by listening.
You learn by repetition.

Other ways people learn vocabulary quickly:

a. Find list of 1000 most common words in the language
b. Memorize lists of words (25 to 100 a day)
c. Flash cards (electronic or paper)

It's important to see the words again within a certain period of time, maybe this is the spaced repetition idea.

How are YOU learning?

VocabuLearn (call Penton overseas and see if you can get a discount)
Alibris, Amazon are other sources.

Some other sources:

Use the library, mixed second-hand bookshops (the ones that have new and old books), Half.com, e-bay.

I've noticed that people pay far too much money and have very little success learning languages. I think vocabulary is key. Of course, an overview of the grammar is valuable too.
