Do eyes 'flick' or 'flicker'?

Eyelids can flicker, buts eyeballs themselves usually flick back and forth.

Then could this be a typo? From New Moon, Twilight's sequel.

"It's a long story." Alice's eyes flickered toward me and away.

No, there's no real rule about it. You can use either. Flicker really just means a quick movement. So does flick. But flicker can also mean to turn off and on quickly, or to vary in brightness (lights flicker, candles flicker, stars flicker, that sort of thing.)
