What does 'livery' mean in this context?

Love keeps you >livery< when others down

The adjective livery has one meaning: suffering from or suggesting a liver disorder or gastric distress.

Yes love can give you gastric distress, if unanswered.

Casual Sex you made me even more confused!!
what does the second part of the sentence mean in this case????
Casual Sex   Wed Sep 09, 2009 6:48 pm GMT
LOL! You sure it's not 'lively'?
Blanc   Wed Sep 09, 2009 7:22 pm GMT
Actually, I also tend to think that it is lively.
Can I periphrase the above-mentioned sentence this way:
Love keeps you (full of life and energy / active and outgoing) and keeps others irrelevan/inferrior
Casual Sex   Wed Sep 09, 2009 7:27 pm GMT
I'd say 'while others stay' irrelevant/inferior.
What are you writing?
Blanc   Wed Sep 09, 2009 7:41 pm GMT
I was asked to translate it.
As to me it may mean anything and I cannot settle on something definite.

Did you see this on a Japanese T-shirt?

It just has to be lively and not livery.....the former is the one that makes sense, and in any case the word "livery" doesn't exist when you're referring to any kind of liver disorder....in which case the correct word to use would be "liverish".

The word "livery" normally means the whole display of an official uniform and all the accoutrements that accompany it, or the uniform of a footman, a chauffeur or any such uniformed individual providing an official service....their entire garb, in other words.

In this context, "livery" means:
1. The speaker has trouble distinguishing between short i and long i
2. The speaker has trouble distinguishing between r and l.

Also, the word is "paraphrase", not "periphrase".

Thank you all for your most useful comments
I've found the original source of this sentence

LOVE is a wonderful thing
Though it's sad.
LOVE makes you happy
And goes to your head.
LOVE keeps you lively
When others are down.
LOVE keeps you smilling
No trace of a frown.
LOVE keeps you warm
On a cold winter's night.
LOVE makes daydream
Makes things seem alright.
LOVE seems for ever.
LOVE never ends.
Until those dreaded words
Let's still be FRIENDS!!!

There were two mistakes in the first place (( but
make an allowance, for asker is boxer and he can't keep such complicated phrases in mind correctly

Fine poem, btw.
I like boxer-poetry. Pure-hearted. Refreshing.
