I wanted to post this message in the thread about Obama's interest in Urdu poetry. But I could not find a way! Someone help me.

Now, about the Urdu poetry. It is very rich in romance, love, nature, sufi-ism, and philosophy of life.

Urdu, written in Arabic / Persian characters is a relatively young language. The language has its origins in Indo-Pakistani subcontinent, and is spoken by as many as 1.25 billion people.

Urdu poetry has evolved from the Farsi and Arabic poetry genres, and has GHAZAL form as its most attractive and musical medium. GHAZAL is closer to ODE in English. Ghazal means "To talk to women", but the modern Ghazal is wider in its definition and concepts, and covers many walks of life.

Most of the Indian movies have Urdu poetry used in their melodious songs.

If you want to understand why Obama likes Urdu poetry, you can take a look at this amazing Sufi Poetry by an American Urdu poety, Saiyid Hanif Akhgar Maleehabadi:
