Thank you for having me

On the edge of my window sill is an extremely cold pidgeon whose feathers are being ruffled by the wind.

One way in which I can contribute to Antimoon is by throwing up words or idiomatic expressions which people who use Supermemo might wish to use: like 'minicab'.

People don't need you to spoonfeed them expressions. They can find their own. People need you to shut up and wait until THEY have a problem, and THEN you can explain it to them. Learning expressions without context doesn't work anyway.

I might be unappreciated by you. However that does not mean that I am unappreciated by everybody. Today I saw Ricky Gervais talking on television about people who hate him. He said that he does not do it for people who hate him. He does not do it for people who love him. He does it for himself.

I find this expression interesting.

What does it mean?

"Thank you for having me"

It might sound silly to you. You might think that it means "Thank you for having me round". But that is not what people say.

In particular, it is something that children are taught to say by their mothers.

"Thank you, mother - for having me!"

It just seems a funny thing to say.

Robin Michael,
People appreciate neither you nor your intellectual diarrhea.
