My experience of Windows 7

Everything is fine now.

The problems were to do with the Netgear Adapter WG 111

They are still selling these in PC World.

A long time ago, I had a Netgear Router from Virgin.net which I could not get to work. When I joined TalkTalk they included a Wireless Router as part of the deal. I was given a set up disc and everything worked from the start. TalkTalk also have a free helpline based in India which is reasonable. I have not used it very often.

I get the impression that Netgear make their money from the problems their products cause. However I have managed to get the Netgear Router working now.

Was it worth it?

The old computer (Gateway 2) is horrible to use. My new computer was full of rubbish and was slowing down. So I am pleased to be starting again with the basics.

I am feeling much better about Windows 7 now. I have just had a little problem starting my computer. However when I removed the CD/DVD that I had left in the computer, it started up all right. I was a little bit worried that there might be a problem with the copy of Microsoft Office 2007 that I have just installed.

I am writing a short story.

Robin, how big is your fucking ego?
Do you think we all sit around worrying about your computer difficulties?

Dear Edward Teach

I started a topic on Windows 7 initially because I was excited about it. Also I thought it was appropriate in an Internet based forum on the English language because people accessing the forum use computers. Furthermore there is a little bit of debate about the extent to which Microsoft dominates personal computering, in the same way that English is the international language. You have one standard across the industry and everyone uses it.

Yet a lot of people feel that Microsoft produce bloated buggy software. Microsoft have always had a very close relationship with Intel and the new software and the new hardware are developed hand in hand. Yet do we need such sophisticated software to access the Internet?

In lots of places where people are learning English as a second language, people could probably make do with a very basic computer running Linux.

Microsoft doesn't dominate personal computing, Linux and Macs are used too.
