How do you pronounce "government"?

1. /'gʌ vən mənt/
2. /'gʌ və mənt/ or
3. /'gʌv mənt/

Which is the most common pronunciation?

Here is the British situation regarding the pronunciation of the "marvel" that is Government as we know and "love" it....until next May or perhaps June at the very, very latest:

In England (and wee little Wales as well) it's mostly: GUV-uh-m'nt

In Scotland: GUV-urrrrr-m'nt

In Ireland there are no set rules at all - what you hear is what you get from the Paddies...bless 'em!

I'd also like to add that for some reason I pronounce "governor" as GUV uh ner. I don't even say the first R.

In London: ['gav m ənt], in Manchester/Liverpool: ['gov m ənt]

I say it the same as Damian. The way I say 'governor' is almost like 'guvnor', the stereotypical Cockney pronunciation.
