Common Decency

This a measure of the degree of politeness required for society to function. So, if someone does not behave properly, they are said to behave without a modicum of 'common decency'.

So what is 'common decency'?

It implies a degree of respect for other people and their feelings.

Someone who does not have this quality of 'common decency' can be described as a 'nasty piece of work'.
