Is Catalan a macrolanguage?

Saluts, Emmanuel.

Of course you are not an 'inferior human specimen'! I actually admire the fact your ancestry is so culturally diverse, as it makes one more interesting and open-minded. Besides, almost every culture arises from the ashes of another one that preceded it, so there is nothing more 'genuine' or 'pure' about one person to the next. I had read an article--I do not recall where exactly--that had mentioned language plays an important role in the way a person thinks. Furthermore, when an ethnic group defends their culture, the most important thing they base their argument on is language. Look at Catalan's situation--although the varieties spoken in Catalonia, Valencia, et cetera, are linguistically the same language, it would be an 'attack' on Valencian culture calling it 'Catalan'. (Imagine calling a Valencian a Catalan!) It may be the same situation for Croatian and Serbian.

Anyhow, I am glad you decided to learn Occitan; it is a very beautiful language, in my opinion. I wish there were some way to learn it, but seeing that I live abroad, there is not much resources I can work with--ha, ha. From my viewpoint, you seem realy proficient in the language, so expect a little jealousy on my part. :) Do you like your current job?

Anyhow, my ancestry is also part Spanish, the other half Italian, but if I have a Moor in my family tree, so be it. There is nothing a human can do about it but cherish it. Besides, some genetic tests in some Scottish town revealed the local residents, who have lived there for who knows how long, also had some traces of 'African' DNA. So who's pure and who's not? I do not believe in the 'purity' of blood or ancestry. Just a bunch of bollocks, in my opinion.

Sorry I did not respond in any other language, but my Spanish is not so good. :'(

"This article makes the case for Catalan as a macrolanguage. It divides Catalan into 3 languages:

Rousillonese (French Catalan)
Algherese (spoken on Sardinia)
Catalan Proper "

Why hell is catalan can be considered in this forum like an "occitan language" ? I never see this theory in any linguistic book. Even in Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Romance_20c_en.png).
