How does one know when to use mi+noun vs. noun+mio?
Possessive adjectives in Spanish
It should be pretty obvious to English speakers:
This is my girlfriend. Esta és mi novia. (possessive adjectives)
This book is mine. Este libro és mío. (possessive pronoun)
Not that difficult, unless you're coming from a Portuguese background, where that distinction was lost.

Italian also ignores the distinction:
. il mio libro
. questo libro è mio
. il mio libro
. questo libro è mio
