extinct romance languages

if it wasn't for that darn Brazil then Latin America could just be called Spanish or Hispanic America, leading to less confusion. portuguese just had to be a slightly different language and reach Brazil, messing everything up and making it incorrect to use the above term. why not Iberian America or something?
