a grammatical question

what is the difference of these 2 sentences?

He is at the Mary's house
He is over at the Mary's house

somefold ("simple"): one inholds the word 'over', the other does not.

Including "over" doesn't change the meaning, but it has slightly different emhpasis. Also, "the" is usually not used with proper nouns, so it should be "He is over at Mary's house".

The sentence with the 'over' in it implies a couple of things, one that Mary is known to the speaker, and two that her house is not far away, certainly in the same town.
