Pronunciation of simultaneously

Claude   Wed Jan 25, 2006 5:00 am GMT
In Vanilly Sky I heard yesterday David (Tom), pronounce
simultaneously, beginning with "saim" instead of "sim".

Is that current in the States or elsewhere ?

Thanks.
Claude.

I pronounce "simultaneously" like Tom Cruise did.

[saIml="teIni@sli]

As far as I know, [saIm...] is the most common pronunciation here in the United States, and [sIm...] is the most common pronunciation in Britain.

I'm British, and I say [sIm...], but my Canadian better half says [saIm...]

I myself pronounce "simultaneously" as /%saIm@l"teni@sli/ -> [%sa:I~.m5=."t_he~:.ni@s.5i].

[saIm5="t_heniIsli] here. I've never heard it pronounced another way by people here.

Thanks for your answers.

If I want to be taken for an American, I know now how to pronounce
"simultaneously". I just like it. Wow!

Cheers. Claude.

I say /saIm/, and call me ignorant but I've never even heard of the other pronunciation...very interesting.

I say /sIm/ that's the norm in Aussie.

I have heard people occasionally use "sim-" in the US, but it tends to sound unnatural and affected -- it's definitely not the norm. I say it the way Kirk, Travis, and nic do.
