Narrative, eh?

How widespread is the usage of the narrative eh, and eh used in fixed expressions. I met some Canadians from Saskatchewan, and they used both of these very frequently. Are expressions such as "Thanks, eh" and "I know, eh" acceptable and used frequently all over Canada, or just in certain areas? Also is the narrative eh heavily stigmatized: "I was driving home in the rain, eh, and this car hit me." Also, is "heh" ever used instead of "eh"?

Are there any other fixed expressions that use "eh"?

Actually, such was classically used here in the Milwaukee area in many of the places one would often hear "eh" in English dialects in Canada, but seems to have died out amongst younger individuals here. I myself only hear its use occasionally in practice here, and then it is always from middle-aged individuals as well.
