The unclearness of dictionaries!

Hello,
I want to raise a point to your attention: the unclearness of dictionaries!

When I'm trying to get the meaning of a new English word, I look it up in Oxford then in a Bilingual dictionary, and even after that, I sometimes don't came to the full understanding of the word, especially when it's a word related to emotions or actions. Besides, some words can be used in such different ways-and thus have so different meanings- that it can be difficult to recognize the exact meaning the author is trying to convey.

My solution to that is to get full bilingual books with annotations, and to seek the help of a native (cultivated) person when learning Languages.

I also follow this process when trying to looking up a word:
Babylon, Oxford, Bilingual Dictionary, Google Desktop Search, Antimoon forums.
Yes Google can be a valuable resource; it will show you various contexts in your own computer text files containing the concerned word. Antimoon forum is of course the best solution, but the results aren't instant.
So, do you agree about the unclearness of dictionaries? And what are your own solutions to this problem?
Regards,
