make a stop vs stop

Do native speakers often use 'make a stop' instead of just 'stop'?
Is there any special reason?

Well, "make a stop" usually implies that one is only going to stop briefly and then start moving again. Just "stop" usually means it's the end of the trip.

Hope this helps...
