And I fully understand the Latin American sentiment.
But in English at least, rarely does one refer to Mexico, or Peru, or Honduras, as "America".
They would say part of "The Americas", we use it in a plural sense, but we never say, "part of America".
We never say "America" is a continent. Instead, we say "North America" or "South America", or when referring to nations in the istmus in between like Belize, Costa Rica, Panama, Honduras, Guatemala, etc., we use the term "Central America", but never just "America", because in English, that just means the United States of America.
In English, when we're talking about some people from Spanish speaking countries in North or South America, we don't say, "They're from America". We would say, "They're from Latin America".
In English, people like to simplify things. It really is a hassle calling America, the "United States of America", every single time you utter those words, or have to write them. The same way people seldom say the, "Estados Unidos Mexicanos", they simply say, "Mexico".
What are we supposed to call ourselves? "The Americans of the United States"? Do you realize how time consuming that would be?
And the "United States" of what? Without "America" in that name, the term "United States" doesn't make any sense.
So, in English, I will continue to refer to "America", as just that, America.
And Bolivia, and Columbia, and Mexico, will be part of "The Americas", or "Latin America", or North or South America.
