Music can improve learning a language.

I agree, I have learned many English words from music.

Someone created an interesting topic about posting music links on antimoon to help us learn and listen how a language sounds. I think it was a good idea, but the topic was unfortunately deleted. I don’t think is a bad idea to listen to Afrikaans song, etc. If anyone knows some links were we can download music in your language, post them here.

Here is an Italian song you can listen to:

Here are the lyrics to help you learn Italian.

Laura Pausini
No!! Amore no......io non ci sto
o ritorni o restli li.....non vivo piu
non sogno piu...ho paura....aiutami!!!
amore no.....ti credo piu
ogni volta che vai via
mi giuri che....e'l'ultima
preferisco dirti addio!!
(musicale....)
cresco!
no!!amore no....io non ci sto
o ritorni o restli li.....non vivo piu
ogni volta che vai via
mi giuri che......e'l'ultima
preferisco dirti addio!!

I know there is a Spanish version of the song. But Italian sounds better. She also sings in Portuguese. Great voice anyway

The Spanish version of the Italian "Tra te e il mare"

http://www.box.net/public/4vfppi9tna

no puedo ahora estarme quieta y esperarte.
¡¡no!!, mi vida no... no aguanto, amor,
o regresas o quédate... no vivo ya,
no sueño ya... tengo miedo... ¡¡ayúdame!!
mi vida no... te creo, amor,
te me vas y todavía
me juras que es... la última,
¡¡es mejor si no me fío!!
(parte musical...)
¡ahora crezco!...
¡¡no!!, mi vida no... no aguanto, amor,
o regresas o quédate... no vivo ya,
no sueño ya... tengo miedo... ¡¡ayúdame!!
mi vida no... te creo, amor,
te me vas y todavía
no puedo ahora estarme quieta y esperarte.

On the subject of music and Italian - I listen to radioitalia.it all the time. It is a very popular radio station in Italy, so they will play current stuff. Choose "On-Air radio" or "On-Air video" when you get to the site. To stream radio or video, you must have the appropriate Windows Media Player plugin.

If you want to view lyrics to the songs, I recommend testimania.leonardo.it - huge respository of lyrics, including most if not all the Italian artists.

LAA   Thu Jul 27, 2006 8:40 pm GMT
I don't listen to any French songs. The only French song I ever listen to is the one from the introduction of the movie, "Eurotrip".

As for Italian songs, check this one out.

"Con te Partiro" - http://barrygreenstein.com/

The sound quality could use some work though.

LAA,

What about Dragostea? If that's Romanian then it sounds really trashy and almost gay. They are what we call here in Portugal "pimba", "pires", "piroso", "música de panilas" etc. Although I've seen on TV that Israeli artillerymen hear it too. Quite funny to watch!

Oh, well I like his style for certain occasions. Not exactly party music, but still beautiful however. You should come to Las Vegas, and see the live water show outside the Hotel Bellagio. They have these fountains of water, which are propelled by jets underneath the ground. They shoot into the sky, but they are coordinated along with the music, so it looks as if they are synchronized dancers. The water dances with the music and the song, and it is some site. Many of the hotels on the strip are French or Italian based, as miniature replicas of real cities. We have the Venetian, fully equipped with the large tower of Venice, along with the canals, and the boatmen. It's filled with stone paved floors, and lined with Ventian-style cuisine restraunts.

The Bellagio is like a giant Italian Villa. And the "Paris" hotel looks like a Parisian palace, with Parisian stlye architecture, the "Arch de Triumphe", and water fountains, and statues of famous French figures, with French flags waving from the ramparts. And there is even a replication of the Eifel tower, and there is a giant hot air balloon. The inside looks like an outside Parisian blvd, with stone paved floors, a blue and clouded sky for a roof, and cafes and French restraunts throughout the casino. All the signs are in French, etc.

Definitely music is a great ally to learn a language. I use to get the lyrics of my favorite songs in English and listen a local radio station which broadcasts only music in English. That helps to extend my vocabulary and to hear how the words sound.

Aldvs,

How old were you when you started learning English?

I should know a lot of Italian by now, from memorzing songs in Italian. But I don't bother translating them, so I remember the words, without knowing their actual meaning.

I was 13 when I received my first English class but for the next 3 years it was a mess since I was not interested in it possibly due to bad teachers and my knowledge was near to nothing. Until I had a strict but better teacher at college for two more years (about 1 hour a week) where I got the idea and assimilated the grammar.
