Learning a language from scratch

The creators of Antimoon offer an excellent method on how to learn English. However, Tom and Michal had already studied some English, as have most of the people in the forum. (And most adults have at least been exposed to some English, even without the classes.) Even for Michal learning Norwegian from "zero level" (his Norsk Experiment--http://www.apronus.com/norsk/index.htm), he used his prior knowledge of English and German.

What method(s) has anyone used (or would consider using) to learn a new language completely from scratch--without a course, native speakers, travel, or much prior exposure to the language?

You can try using podcast. I learned the basics of Italian that way.
