For all you thousands of avid students of the beautiful and mysterious Albanian language - I've just had a revelation which I must share with you...

I know how much you hate those tricky Albanian adjective clitics, well the easiest way is to remember the exceptions. In most cases these clitics DO NOT change for gender or even for number; the default form is të/së. If you spot any mistakes please let me know - but I think I've got it right this time. Here goes;

FOR BOTH GENDERS, SING & PLURAL,

Acc*

Gen } të
Dat
Abl

* Exception 1. - Definite Acc = e
Exception 2. - Feminine Gen/Dat/Abl = së

Exception 3. FOR BOTH GENDERS:

PLURAL Definite Nominative = e

Exception 4: FOR DEFINITE & INDEFINITE, SINGULAR ONLY:

Masc = i
Fem = e

So that's it; for me this is an easier way of looking at it; start with të, then look at the exceptions. I consider that only 'i' and 'së' really mark gender. This also fits with all the possessive adjectives that are not 'split' i.e. i/e/të/së + tij/saj/tyre/mi/mia/tu/tua.
