Pronunciation of Laura

Guest’s question was: “How do you say "Laura": Lahra or Lora or something else?”

Read again the question: “Lahra” or “Lora”

The answer is: Lora PERIOD!

Why are you complicating things here? Your discussion is like chewing a gum, never has an end. Any word in any language, you will never have two who can pronounce it 100% perfectly the same. So if you want to give Guest a help, just tell him it is Lora not Larah…

Cheers!

>>just tell him it is Lora not Larah…<<

But I pronounce is "Lawra" and sometime "Lo-ruh".

PS: As you can see, our representations are meaningless.

But I pronounce it "Lawra" and sometimes "Lo-ruh".

PS: As you can see, our representations are meaningless, so the added sophistication isn't complicating things.

2 + 2 = 4, not five. I hear four sounds why should I write five?
Do you think that I can forget something which I have written, for example during 2003 in antimoon I was writting an article about 'talk to or talk with..' , or... in 2004 in antimoon there were poem competition and I post my favorite poem by Alan Parson's project... Do you think that I don't remember?

I've never heard anyone pronounce "Dawn" as [don]. [dOn], yes, but never [don].

Well, an Australian would pronounce "Dawn" as [do:n]. But regardless, the c-c-unmerged American pronunciation would definitely be [dOn] or [dQn].

Wow, so does that mean that they pronounce "caught" as "coat"?

No, they pronounce "caught" completely differently from how they pronounce "coat". ;-)

In a typical Australian accent they'd be:

"caught" ["k_ho:t]
"coat" ["k_h6}t]
