This book is a little interesting

Hello guys! Merry Christmas from Japan!

By the way I got one question. My English teacher said "This book is a little interesting" is somehow wrong. Is it true? How does it sound to you? Does it sound weird?

Thanks in advance

Hello Himiko and merry Christmas,

It sounds a bit queer really. I would say ”This book is quite interesting"

Or "This book is a little bit interesting."

or "This book is a bit interesting."

I agree, it's "a little bit" weird to say "a little interesting."

Yes, 'little interesting', implies that it only interests you a little. Which is a strange thing to say, because either it is interesting or not. Life is not so black and white, and you can have graduations of 'interesting', such as 'quite interesting', or 'really not very interesting'. But not 'big interesting'.

Bye for now
