took a train for/to

Hello guys. Could you help me in doing English exercises?

(Q) Which one is better "for" or "to"?
1. The next morning we took a train for/to Kyoto at 7:30 and arrived at 9:00.
2. We took a train for/to Kyoto and then a taxi to the Samurai Museum.

My choices are "for" for #1 and "to" for #2.
Am I right?

I'd use "to" for both but I suppose your English teacher has his own set of rules he'd like you to use.

Your choices seem correct to me. In the first sentence, "for" is appropriate because you are referring specifically to when you started the action, and in the second sentence, "to" is appropriate because you are referring to a completed action.

«However, unfair as it may seem...»

Hmmm. But what's the defference between "take" and "catch" in this context? Or should one just remeber this particular fact about the two particular words?
