What is the rate of speech in the US & UK English in a normal conversation?

When I went to Ireland, an Irish man said to me, that Irish people talk very quickly, and will flit from one subject to another when talking to a number of people in a Pub.

People's rate of speech varies a lot. Think about how people vary their rate of speech in your own country to express, anger, or if they are saying something that people already know. For instance, on the radio, the adverts will often have to carry some type of warning. That warning 'smoking may damage your health', will be said very quickly.

I think you will find that English Speakers teaching abroad, tend to speak slowly and clearly.

You mean, how many words per minute? That probably varies from person to person, but a quick internet search seems to put it at around 150-200 words per minute in a normal conversation (not all sources agreed -- I saw 180 being used a lot). Nobody seemed to tie it in to dialect, though.
