can anyone advice me on where to ask questions - English vocabulary concerned and getting an answer? This forum seems to be aimed at some other purpose, or better to say, some other areas - pronunciation...thanks

It means literally, "If she was a day old, she was thirty-four." A better explanation would be: "She was definitely at least thirty-four years old, as surely as she is at least a day old." Though of course, that loses some of the effect of the original phrase.
