Hey this question is for native English speakers:

How do you pronounce the word "Mischievous"?
A) mis-CHEE-vi-us
B) MIS-chi-vus

I've heard A) more often but some one told me B) actually is correct pronunciation.

Is either one acceptable? or B) is the only correct pronunciation?

Pronouncing it with stress on the second syllable is common in North America, but I think less so in the UK. It is not listed in the Oxford English Dictionary. On Dictionary.com, an American site, your A) is listed as a non-standard pronunciation, but I would disagree. The only "correct" pronunciation is the one that people use.

I pronounce it ["mIstS@v@s] (the first pronunciation), but I have heard a lot of people say [mIs"tSivi@s].

"B" for me, but I would venture to guess that most Americans would say "A"

I'm E and I use "B"

I'm American and say miss-CHEE-vee-us... Or "A" or whatever.

It's /mIs"tSi:vi@s/, but I'm not sure where the -"ee-uh" syllable comes from.

I pronounce "mischievious" as ["mIStSjI:vIs]. I really am not sure where the [j] comes from here, but my guess is that it is due to reanalysis of /tS/ as /tj/ at some point along the line.

I've said it both ways.
