Thanks Lazar. That twao links are good, but not good enough. I need to have an on-line dictionary that includes a larger vocabulary, words like "staphylococcus". I am in desperate need of such web link.

Words like "staphylococcus" are simply not included in the learners' dictionaries, still less to say their IPA phonetic symbols. Anyone has any clue? Thanks!

Well, http://dictionary.reference.com/ does have more specialized words like "staphylococcus", with IPA, but it only gives them in American English. In this specific case, I'd guess that the British pronunciation would probably be similar to the American one: [st{f@l@"kQk@s] or perhaps [st{f@l@U"kQk@s].

I googled that link too. For the link, http://dictionary.reference.com/, just as you said, it has IPA for words, but only in American English. That is not what I want. Well, you know, I am compiling a textbook. I need to have 100% correct IPA phonetic symbols for British pronounciation. It seems that there is no free on-line dictionary featuring British pronounciation using IPA symbols. What a pity!

staphylococcus is pronounced [st{fIl@"kQk@s] according to the OED. Unfortunately, there is no online look-up for the OED, but if you have any other words you want to know the pronunciation of, just let me know and I'll look them up for you. Sorry it's not in IPA, but you should be able to convert it using the chart here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-sampa

http://www.howjsay.com/

Has spoken pronunciations rather than IPA symbols, but its word list does include staphylococcus as well as a number of other technical/scientific terms.
