How to learn technical vocabulary?

Teri   Wed Mar 28, 2007 8:17 am GMT
I recently recieved a scholarship to study postgraduate mathematics in a foreign country. I know the language quite well, however I have no knowledge at all of technical vocabulary and I am afraid I will struggle. Has anyone any experience in this regard? What can I do to learn the vocabulary, it's not so easy to find it on the web like everything else... Thanks for any comments or suggestions.

You could try to find a high school math textbook, and then work your way up with more advanced books until you reach your level. Also, you could try to find someone in the faculty who speaks your language who can help translate for you, or if you can't, then at least to explain some of the terms to you. If you're moving between European languages though, technical vocabulary shouldn't be that hard, because they all borrowed it from Latin and Greek, so it's pretty much the same. What is your native language, and where are you going to study?
