"hokie" mean?

what does "hokie" mean? How to pronunce "salad", the first "a" same to "a" in "cat"? the second one I am pretty sure is upside dow "e" sound?

Hokie is slang for something that is phoney, disingenuous and melodramatic.

(It can also mean an emasculated turkey but no one except a turkey rancher would know that)

It's usually spelled "hokey", though. And yes, salad is said with the first A like the A in cat, and teh last one like an upside-down E (a schwa).
