Benny or Persil?

"Benny washed the woolens well in Persil."*

Could that be rewritten as:

"Benny washed the woolens well."

Or is it?

"Persil washed the woolens well."
----

*Persil is a brand of soap powder.

If you are trying to say that the detergent Persil did a great job on your laundry, you might say "Persil CLEANED the woolens well", but you probably wouldn't use "washed" there, since that's more an action that a person takes. At least, when you're talking about cleaning. In other contexts, inanimate objects can "wash", as in "the waves washed over the deck" or "the colors of the city were all washed out by the harsh noonday sun", but those are different meanings of the word "wash".

How about these? There, the action "wash" is not directly attributed to a person.

"50/50 cotton/polyester broadcloth washes well and requires little or no ironing;"

"Pros: Fabric washes well, lightweight, exceptional car seat."

For Uriel:

"Persil washes whiter."

"For example, the classical campaign of 'Persil washes whiter than white' has been immense successful."
