Which pronunciation is correct?

appealing / ..'pi:liN / or / ..'pi..liN /
/../ = schwa
/N/ = nasalized /n/

I think this depends on what happens to /i/ (the "ee" sound) before /l/.

For me, /i/ is [i:] before an /l/ which is followed by a vowel, but [i@] before one which is followed by a consonant or at the end of a word.

So "appeal" is [@pi@5], but "appealing" is [@pi:lIN(g)]. Other accents may differ.

([@]=schwa, [5]=dark L, [N(g)] means I sometimes pronounce the [g] and sometimes don't.)
