Languages of Switzerland?

What fuckin' means this fuckin "mutually intelligible"???? There is no fuckin intelliigibility if you don't study a language, I don't think a Portoguese can understand much of Italian and viceversa. Stop with this idiot concept. It's incredible how stupid people believe these legends

You probably will encounter many Swiss German speakers who speak French as well. Most Swiss are either bi-lingual or multi-lingual. They have to be in order to communicate with their fellow countrymenI

Hey Traveller: if you speak English fluently, just stick to using English!
Swiss people from German speaking areas speak English better than French.

Why bother speaking French inspite of English?

superdavid, I just didn't know enough about the language issue in Switzerland to realize that I could use English. I figured that since French was an official language of Switzerland, I would have to use it since I don't speak German.

Thanks for the help everyone!

As a swiss person (francophone), you can speak french in germanophone cities. (germanophones learn french or italian at school, and vice versa for the francophone or italophone).

On the contrary, Superdavid is wrong, a minority only speak english.
