Just curious as to how you lot pronounce this word. I pronounce it "wuck" or /wVk/.
Josh Lalonde   Fri Jun 08, 2007 12:04 am GMT
I pronounce it ["w3`k]. Where are you from?
Gimp   Fri Jun 08, 2007 12:07 am GMT
I'm originally from Norfolk, though I don't live there now.
Shatnerian   Fri Jun 08, 2007 12:18 am GMT
I believe that my pronunciation is also ['w3`k] or something very, very similar.
Skippy   Fri Jun 08, 2007 2:09 pm GMT
I say it like the two above.

Gimp, are you from Norfolk, VA or the county in England? In Virginia I'd assume it'd be [w3'k] like the rest of us.

/w3:k/
Travis   Fri Jun 08, 2007 2:42 pm GMT
I myself pronounce it [wR=k].
Gimp   Fri Jun 08, 2007 5:21 pm GMT
Norfolk, the county in England, not Norfolk, VA.

Work - the curse of the drinking classes. Wurrrrk. Being a Scot I roll my Rs.....be careful how you pronounce the latter.

Have a great weekend!

Werk. No rolled R -- even if I wanted to!

Skippy, you might be surprised at how people in Norfolf, Virginia, pronounce "work" -- especially since they insist on calling their city "Naffuck"! (I used to live just north of there, in Newport News. That's pronounced Noopert Nooze, of course.)

Wark (yes wark!), werk, wirk, work, wurk... take your pick.
