Question

I have a question about the showman David Letterman. I'm an English student and I find it really easy to understand everything he says. I'd like to know what "kind" of American English he speaks (i.e area). I heard he was born in Indianapolis, Indiana. Does he then speak with a Midwestern accent? Thanks in advance.

I haven't watched Letterman in a while, but from what I recall he has a pretty standardized American. What many consider "Standard" in American is based on the speech of folks in places like Cleveland back in the 50s, so coupled with the fact that he hosts a late night talk show on a network channel, I wouldn't doubt that his accent would be highly standardized.
