COMPENSATION

Could somebody please tell me why it's incorrect to say,
"You should make some compensation"?

It's not incorrect, but the collocation (see below) is normally "give compensation".

collocation 2. An arrangement or juxtaposition of words or other elements, especially those that commonly co-occur, as rancid butter, bosom buddy, or dead serious.

It's OK to say "make compensation".
