subjuntivo y condicional en argentina

Subjunctive is showing signs of weakness in Spain too. Despite they are not many, I detect that sometimes people use the indicative mood when they should have used the subjunctive. For example, "espero que vendrás" instead of "espero que vengas".

in some dialects of Brazilian Portuguese (including urban dialect of São Paulo and often Belo Horizonte), present subjunctive is replaced with present indicative:

Eu quero que você me ajuda. (Indicative) I want you to help me.
Eu quero que você me ajude (Subjunctive) I want you to helpme.
Talvez eu vou. (Indicative) I might go.
Talvez eu vá (Subjunctive) I might go.

I think it's a result of a Indicatival/Subjunctival Imperatives:

(Você) chora/chore.... CRY!
(Você) não chora / não chore... DON'T CRY

These do not occur with past subjunctive...

Eu queria que você me ajudasse. I wanted you to help me.


It's normal to use SOUBESSE (KNEW) instead of TIVESSE SABIDO (HAD KNOWN) in past if clause:


Se eu soubesse, eu teria vindo mais cedo.
(lit. If I knew about that, I would have come earlier)

instead of Se eu tivesse sabido...If I had known about that...
